LGBT+ History Month is celebrated in February in the UK, it is an annual month-long observance of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender history, and the history of the gay rights and related civil rights movements.
LGBT+ History Month focuses on the celebration and recognition of LGBTQ+ people and culture; past, present and the future journey towards full equality promoting a safer and more inclusive society where the varied spectrum of sexuality and gender is spoken about openly and universally accepted. The community have made history already this year, as for the first time in over 200 years, LGBT+ people are officially counted as part of the Census!
LGBT+ History Month has focused its activities on a different theme each year. The theme for 2023 is Behind the Lens, celebrating LGBT+ peoples’ contribution to cinema and film from behind the lens. Directors, cinematographers, screen writers, producers, animators, costume designers, special effects, make up artists, lighting directors, musicians, choreographers and beyond.

Our Service
West Yorkshire Liaison and Diversion strives to create an inclusive workspace, for both our team members and our service users.
We pledge to explore and support the needs of individuals who identify as LGBTQ+, aiming to develop and sustain an environment where all staff embrace the LGBTQ+ community so that we can offer the best service possible to those who have come into contact with the Criminal Justice System.
We understand the importance of learning about barriers our LGBTQ+ service users face when accessing support and strive to combat these and have therefore sought service wide LGBTQ+ training which will be taking place in the coming months – we can’t wait!
Our teams scope local support available for our clients belonging to the community, and circulate updates surrounding the LGBTQ+ culture. We have begun our journey to receive a Cultural Cohesion Quality Mark (CCQM) to ensure our service is responsive to the culture of our service users – if you want to find out more about CCQM..
